Our Church History

The Church Is Born

On a beautiful Father’s Day Sunday morning, June 17, 1973, a group of believers met in a garage for the beginning of Faith Assembly of God. The next week under the leadership of Rev. Bill Cuneio we met at the Odd Fellows Hall then later moved to St. John’s Episcopal Church where we worshipped until 1975.

New Building

At that time we moved to our present location at 310 E. Springfield. Our beautiful up-to date worship facility was designed by fellow church member Bro. George Tutterrow, who also served as general contractor. His brother, Bro. Paul Tutterrow worked alongside to see their dream come to fruition. Many members worked long hours helping with the interior design alongside the main coordinator, Sis. Lurene Williams.

Faithful Leadership

Since its beginning Faith has been guided by several Assembly of God ordained ministers including the first pastor Rev. Bill Cuneio, followed by Reverends Phil Appenzeller, Loren Wooten, Bill Nichols, Daniel Cuffle, David Earls, Dan Martin, Tom Snavely, Jeff Peters and Christian Cleghorn. Our present pastor is Rev. Ron Pettet along with his lovely wife Sue. They have recently come to us from Texas. Pastor Ron spent his late childhood and early teen years here in Sullivan where his father, Rev. A.W. Pettet, pastored First Assembly in the early 60’s.

Love Your Neighbor

Throughout the years, Faith has been proven to be active in the community with such projects as Relay for Life, Rooftop Food Drive, Ministerial Alliance services and Gospel Night at the Fair.

Friends & Fellowship

Faith has always been an active church with Sunday School, youth and children’s programs being a top priority. We consider ourselves a “fellowshipping” church as we love to get together and enjoy good food, fun and fellowship. As a group we also love to go to gospel singings.

Missions

Missions have always been dear to the hearts of Faith members and this is demonstrated each fall as the whole church comes together for Apple Butter Day! Before the big day we wash jars, wash, cut and core as many as 40 bushels of apples and make into applesauce. On the big day, which is always the first Saturday in October, we arrive early in the morning, get out the big old fashioned copper kettles and stir apple butter the biggest part of the day. The hundreds of quarts of apple butter is then sold to friends and family throughout the community and state with all the proceeds going to missions. Apple butter making at Faith is a highlight year after year!
